Eddy Calderwood
Eddy’s journey with Azusa Pacific University’s Mexicali Outreach Program began in 1979, when he helped lead a team serving the community of Ejido Mezquital. During that time, he met Pastor Juan Pulido, one of the founders of the Mexicali Outreach Program. He was inspired by both the program’s impact on students and the way Pastor Juan ministered to his congregation.
After a couple of years volunteering, Eddy transferred to APU, studied Christian Education, and worked in the “Mexicali” office as a student.
Following his graduation in 1987, Eddy became the Director of Mexico Operations and went on to serve in various leadership roles. He was later appointed Director of the APU Mexico Outreach Program, a position he held until 2021, when the university discontinued the program.
Today, Eddy leads Mexicali Outreach alongside the Mexicali Ministry Coordinators, operating independently under Amigos del Ejido A.C., a longstanding Mexican nonprofit organization, where he also serves as President.

Magdalena Mora
“I am grateful to Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength and considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service.” – 1 Timothy 1:12
Magdalena has partnered with Mexicali Outreach since the late 1990s, when her church began planting missions and small groups and requested a team to serve at the Monte Sion Mission in Ejido Hipólito Rentería.
Her journey as a ministry coordinator began when Pastor Juan Pulido, one of the founders of Mexicali Outreach, invited her to join the team. Magdalena responded, “Yes, by God’s mercy.” She remains deeply grateful to the Lord, to the Mexicali program, and to each of its coordinators.
Since 2018, Magdalena has led the team of Mexicali Ministry Coordinators and serves as their spokesperson. She also serves as Vice President of Amigos del Ejido A.C.

Pedro Sánchez
Pedro is a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loves the Lord with all his heart and has a genuine passion for serving others. For over a decade, he has faithfully volunteered as an interpreter and, since 2018, has served as the Coordinator of the Interpreter Ministry. Pedro also has a long-standing heart for prison ministry. His powerful personal testimony resonates deeply with inmates, allowing him to connect in meaningful and life-changing ways
Happy & Jerry Dean
Happy began serving with the Mexicali Outreach program in the 1960s. She assisted with various aspects of the ministry for many years, and in 1980, she focused on prison ministry when she became aware that there were women in the men’s prison who desperately needed a message of hope in Jesus. Since then, she has led the Mexicali Outreach prison ministry. Several of the former convicts have become pastors and founded several churches.
While her husband, Jerry, always supported her. And while retiring, Jerry had the opportunity to visit the newly organized Evangelical church inside the prison. He developed friendships and a deep passion for the men and women in jail, as well as the extreme gratitude from the prisoners for their visits, and the message of hope they bring with each visit. They continue to minister passionately to serve the prisoners, former prisoners, and their families, with the director’s and staff's permission and cooperation.
Mariella & Tim Deaver
Mariella and Tim Deaver were first introduced to Mexicali Outreach in 2010, when they joined their high school son, Wesley, in serving as chaperones and leaders with the Village Christian High School Team. During those early trips, Mariella helped with the prison ministry and developed a friendship with Happy Dean, who faithfully led that work, while Tim assisted with construction projects. By the time Wesley graduated, both Mariella and Tim had fallen in love with the Mexicali Outreach program and its mission.
Since then, the Deavers have faithfully served with various ministries in both Mexicali and Ensenada, remaining active even throughout the pandemic. In the spring of 2025, Mariella—faithfully supported by Tim—officially accepted the leadership role as coordinator of the Mexicali Women’s Prison Ministry at CESISPE. She is passionate about continuing and building upon the impactful work begun by her friend, Happy Dean. Together, Mariella and Tim bring encouragement, experience, and a deep love for the people they serve.

Israel Estrada
Israel Estrada first connected with Mexicali Outreach in the 1990s while in college. Together, they lead the ministries of Mision El Hombre de Galilea in San Luis Rio Colorado. The church is made up of about 40 adults with about 80 children. Many children do not have a family and are in great need of the basics. The Dominguez Family requests that their family serve their community. Joel coordinates ministry sites in the San Luis region. As with their church ministry, their entire family volunteers with Mexicali Outreach. They are sometimes called the Dominguez Army because they arrive as a unified force. They are a force since they always arrive with hearts to serve.
Hilda Agúndez
Since the 1970s, Andrés and Hilda Agúndes faithfully led Iglesia Bíblica Fundamental in Ejido Cuernavaca. Together, they partnered with Amelia Rattan, one of the founders of Mexicali Outreach, to expand ministries and bring the gospel to the Mexicali region and beyond.
Following Pastor Andrés’s passing in March 2025, Hilda continues to be a pillar of strength for both her family and her church. With steadfast faith and compassion, she supports ministry efforts in Mexicali and the surrounding communities, carrying forward the legacy of love and service that she and Pastor Andres built together.
Juan y María Pulido
Pastor Juan says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit” Matthew 28:19
In 1976, Juan Pulido and his wife María served as Missionaries to Poblado Bonfil, a remote community in the most southern part of the Mexicali Valley. His journey with Mexicali Outreach (MO) began when Amelia Rattan (MO’s original missionary) arrived at the church in Poblado Bonfil, where she was told how to find him at his home in Ejido Mezqital. Amelia explained the program she helped develop with Azusa Pacific University and asked Juan to help her connect and recruit area pastors to host teams from the US to receive groups. The opportunity inspired Juan, and he began to help Amelia. Juan knew the work would be a blessing to himself and the community. Juan Pulido has now served with the program for more than 40 years. He continues to perform with MO joyfully, knowing that what we do for the Lord is not in vain.
